Charles A. Daczka

Charles A. Daczka, 94, of Avoca, passed away on Sunday, October 5, 2025, at St. Mary’s Villa Nursing Center in Elmhurst Twp.  Born in Avoca on March 2, 1931, he was the son of the late Andrew and Aniela Venetski Daczka.

Charles was a member of Sacred Heart Of Jesus Church, Dupont and a proud graduate of Avoca High School, Class of 1948.  He began his career working for his uncle’s timber company, Bear Fuel Service, before becoming a welder for the local railroad. Charles later joined the Chamberlain Company in Scranton, where he worked until his retirement in 1994 at the age of 62.


A hardworking man and a dedicated provider, Charles took great pride in caring for his family. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time on his boat with his loved ones.  Charles especially cherished family vacations to Seaside Heights, New Jersey where many lasting memories were made.


He was also a social member of the Avoca VFW and the Knights of Columbus in Pittston.  Charles will be remembered for his strong work ethic, love of family, and kind spirit. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.


He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 63 years, Frances Ann (Chrobak) Daczka, who passed away on March 28, 2021, his brothers; Edwin and Theodore and sisters; Frances, Antoinette, and Sandra “Alice”.


Charles is survived by his children: Charles and his wife Cindy of Dover, PA; David and his wife Julie of Madison Twp.; Mark and his wife Lisa of Houston City, Avoca; and Mary Beth Daczka of Duryea. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Aniell Tomer and her husband Ofir, Liana Owad and her husband Nick, Rachell Toomey and her husband Ronald, Kyle Daczka and his wife Kate, Amanda Smerdon and her husband Mark, Tyler Daczka and his wife Stephanie, and Aiden Daczka, and his great grandchildren including Kaylee and Zoe Smerdon, Talia Tomer, Cora Owad, Alice Toomey, Ronald Toomey, and Andrew Daczka. Also surviving are his sister Sally Grossi of Scranton and several nieces and nephews.


Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 10, 2025, at 10:30am from Kiesinger Funeral Services, Inc., 255 McAlpine St., Duryea, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00am at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 217 Lackawanna Ave., Dupont, with Fr. Thomas Petro officiating. 


Friends may call for visitation on Friday morning at the funeral home from 9:30am until time of the mass.  Interment will be held at Sacred Heart of Jesus Cemetery, Dupont.
