Elwood W. Richards, 90, of Pittston, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Pittston, he was the son of the late Elwood C. Richards and Dorothy Tigue Richards.

The most important thing in his life was his family. Elwood was the patriarch and was blessed to have the partnership of his loving wife Shirley Best Richards, being born only 11 days apart, going to school together and dating since age 16, the two were truly meant to be together. Throughout life’s ups and downs the couple showed strength and unity, leaving behind a legacy of love.

He will be missed by his great group of friends call the “Pizza Loven Gang” that met every weekend for over 20 years.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Elwood “Woody” Richards, his sister, Dorothy Richards, his daughter, Ann DePetro and granddaughter, Denise DePetro.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 68 years, Shirley Best Richards, and granddaughters; Jaime, Karen, and Cathy Richards, and daughter-in-law, Jodi Richards, all of Pittston. He is also survived by his sister-in-law, Jane Melvin, Topeka, Kansas and cousin, Michael Tigue and his wife Diane, Old Forge, New York, and nieces and nephews.
