Jake Zalewski

Jake Zalewski, 56, of Hughestown, passed away on Thursday, August 27, 2026, at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital in Wilkes-Barre. Born in Tunkhannock on December 11, 1969, he was the son of Amelia (Corby) Wilson and the late Ronald Zalewski.

Jake was a 1988 graduate of West Side Tech High School in Pringle. After high school, he attended Johnson’s Technical College in Scranton. He worked as a truck driver for many years with several local trucking companies, most recently for Mariotti Building Products in Old Forge.

Jake was known for his sense of humor and quick wit. He seemed to know the punch line to just about every joke and had a way of bringing laughter to those around him. He enjoyed life and lived in a stress-free sort of way, always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. A family man, Jake especially enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

In addition to his father, Jake was preceded in death by his stepfather, Tom Wilson, and his mother-in-law, Shirley Orleski.

In addition to his mother, Jake is survived by his wife of 30 years, Laurie (Orleski) Zalewski; his children, Jacob Zalewski and his wife, McKenzee, of Pittston Twp., Dana Colon and her husband, Nelson, of Hughestown, and Emily Zalewski, of Hughestown; and his grandchildren, Olivia Mae Zalewski and Colton Ronald “Skip” Zalewski. Also surviving are his siblings, Tammy Gavek of Japan, Tim Zalewski of Tunkhannock, Amy Cegelka and her husband, Jeff, of Harding, Tom Wilson and his wife, Tiffany, of Hughestown, Bubba Zalewski and his wife, Toni, of Tunkhannock, Mike Wilson of Tunkhannock, Nick Wilson of Tunkhannock, and Bob Zalewski of Virginia, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held on Monday, August 31, 2026, at 6:30 p.m. at Kiesinger Funeral Services Inc., 255 McAlpine St., Duryea. Friends may call for visitation on Monday afternoon from 4 p.m. until the time of service.
