George O’Hop, 99, of Duryea, passed away on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Hospital in Wilkes-Barre. Born in Avoca on April 4, 1927, he was the son of the late John and Julia (Kozak) O’Hop.


George was a lifelong member of Holy Rosary Church, Nativity of Our Lord Parish, Duryea, and a graduate of Avoca High School, Class of 1944. In 1945, he joined the United States Navy and served during World War II in the Pacific and American Theaters. After returning home, he worked with Local Union 1319 IBEW as a journeyman lineman beginning in 1952. He traveled extensively throughout the United States as a lineman and later worked as a foreman for Asplundh for many years before retiring in 1989. He also served as head of Local Union 1319.


George loved spending time outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman, enjoying days in the woods and on the water with family and friends. He was a member of the Elm Street Sportsman Club, Avoca VFW Post 8335, and Avoca American Legion Post 607. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.


In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Jennie (Kozloski) O’Hop, who died on February 27, 2018; his daughter, Cindy Resavy, who died in 2010; and his siblings, Ceil Puto, Marie Price, John O’Hop, and Richard O’Hop.


He is survived by his sons, George O’Hop Jr. and his wife, Ann Marie, of Virginia, and David O’Hop and his wife, Christine, of Avoca. Also surviving are his granddaughters, Nichole and Brittney O’Hop; his step-grandson, Robert Vols, and his wife, Mary; his step-great-grandchildren, Kayla, Benjamin, and Robbie Vols; and several nieces and nephews.


A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, August 24, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Nativity of Our Lord Parish Church, 127 Stephenson St., Duryea. Friends may call for visitation on Monday morning, August 24, at the church from 9:00 a.m. until the time of Mass. Interment will be held at Holy Rosary Cemetery, Duryea. The AMVETS Honor Guard of Greater Pittston will provide military honors.
