Joseph P. Namatka, 89, of Duryea, passed away on April 1, 2025, after a lengthy illness. Joseph was born in Duryea, PA, on February 26, 1936, to the late Peter and Elizabeth (Kanyok) Namatka.

He was a graduate of Duryea High School, Class of 1954, where he met his high school sweetheart and future wife, Mary Ann (Sowa) Namatka, who passed away in 2000.
Joseph enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1955 and served as an aircraft electrical repairman at McGuire Air Force Base in New Jersey. After an Honorable Discharge in 1959, he worked various jobs locally as well as in New Jersey. He later secured a job as an electronic repairman at the Tobyhanna Army Depot, retiring in 1995.
A devout Catholic, he was a member of the Nativity of Our Lord Parish, Duryea.
Joseph enjoyed spending time with his family whether on a day trip to the Poconos, a local park for a picnic, or visiting places of historical interest. He also enjoyed fishing, gardening, cooking, baking (especially his famous pumpkin pies), and creating beautiful Christmas village and nativity scenes for the holidays.
Joseph was always ready to lend a helping hand to neighbor or friend and he was a devoted caregiver to family members for many years.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his infant brother, Raymond Namatka; adult brothers Michael Namatka and Peter Namotka; and sisters Elizabeth (Betty) Dranchak and Marie Mateyka.
Joseph is survived by his daughter Linda and husband Robert Dzieciol, Avoca; grandson Robert John Dzieciol, Dallas; brothers Gerald and wife Liz Namatka, Florida, and Frank and wife Mary Jane Namatka, Ransom; numerous nieces and nephews; and godsons.
The family wishes to thank his medical providers including Dr. Loren Mangino, MD; John W. Rosencrans, NP; staff of Serenity Care Kingston; and staff of Third Avenue Health and Rehab, Kingston, for their kind and loving care. And a special thank you to his niece, Rose Namotka Jordan, and godsons, Jeff and Jason Matiko, for their continued support, dedication and help especially during the last years of his journey.
Viewing is Monday, April 7, 2025, 9:30am to 10:30am at Kiesinger Funeral Services, Inc., 255 McAlpine Street, Duryea, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 11:00am in the Nativity of Our Lord Parish, 127 Stephenson Street, Duryea, Rev. Michael M. Bryant officiating. Interment will be in Holy Rosary Cemetery, Duryea.
Arrangements entrusted to the Kiesinger Funeral Services, Inc., 255 McAlpine Street, Duryea.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Jude’s Hospital in memory of Joseph.
