Catherine Simyan, 83, of Pittston, passed away on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at the Regional Hospital of Scranton.  She was born in Binghamton, NY on September 8, 1942. She was the daughter of the late John and Catherine (Nugent) Rovente.

Catherine was a member of St. John The Evangelist Church in Pittston and a graduate of Binghamton North High School.  She relocated with her family to Hollisterville where she was employed by Spring Hill Press in Sterling, PA.  In her later years, she worked at St. Mary’s Villa in Elmhurst, PA from where she retired.

Kate was a legend.  She loved to garden.  She was known for her cutout frosted cookies and she loved to experiment with recipes.  She called them her “inventions.”  She was the life of the party who would break out in song singing her favorites, R-E-S-P-E-C-T, Cause I’m a woman WOMAN and I am Woman Hear Me Roar.  She would sing Johnny Appleseed to the kids and teach them their prayers.  She loved family vacations at Wildwood and renting bikes to ride on the boardwalk and the time we rented an RV and went to Ft. Wilderness campground at Walt Disney World where she fried hamburgers while driving down the highway and her favorite ride was The LAND.  Later in life she moved to Pittston and enjoyed her time at the Pittston Senior Center, especially the monthly tea parties.  Above all, she treasured time with her beloved family.  She will be deeply missed by those lucky enough to have known and loved her.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Simyan, her sisters, Rosemary Zelenyak and Patricia Whitney Forno, her brother Fred Rovente and her nephews, John Michael Rovente and Gary Whitney.

She is survived by her son, John Simyan and his wife Patty, of Pittston; her daughter, Dr. Kelly Meyer and her husband, Craig of Quakertown; her grandchildren, Dean Meyer, Catherine Meyer, Kaitlyn Simyan, Nicole Psaila Esq., Brinna Psaila and Justin Psaila and his wife, Jane.  She is also survived by her brother; John Rovente and his wife, Doris her sister-in-law, Penny Rovente and her brother-in-law, John Zelenyak as well as many nieces and nephews.

The family would like to give special thanks to the Dapper Dr. Kevin Olsen and Dr. Lisa Thomas for their extraordinary care and compassion given to our Mother over the years.  And to the kindness of Teri Nidoh from Aveanna Home Care for her years of helping our mother with her care because she loved the time spent with her.

Celebration of life service will be held at Most Holy Rosary Church in Maine, NY with interment at Vestal Hills Memorial Park Cemetery in Vestal, NY at a later date.

Arrangements are made by Kiesinger Funeral Services, Inc., 255 McAlpine St., Duryea.
