Helen Marie Eckrote, 98, a lifelong resident of Avoca, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 16, 2026, at Oak Ridge Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center in Taylor. She was born in Avoca on May 2, 1928, and was the daughter of the late Thomas and Elizabeth (Sheerer) Frew.

Helen was a member of Queen of the Apostles Parish Church in Avoca and a graduate of Avoca High School, Class of 1946. She worked as a seamstress throughout her life in the local garment industry and retired from Leslie Fay Garments after many years of dedicated employment.
Helen was an excellent handcrafter who specialized in quilting, needlepoint, and other arts and crafts. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her beloved family and grandchildren. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
In addition to her parents, Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Norman Eckrote, who died on December 12, 1968; her sister, Kathleen Tippett; and her brothers, Thomas, James, Francis, and Joseph Frew.
She is survived by her children: Sharon Rogers and her husband, Kevin, of Virginia; Carol Rodeghiero and her husband, Lee, of Avoca; Norman Eckrote and his wife, Rebbecca, of Dalton; Nadine Eckrote, of Avoca; and Dale Eckrote and his wife, Jane, of Milton, Delaware. Also surviving are her grandchildren: Michelle Joreg and her husband, David; Brian Rodeghiero and his wife, Karen; Aimee Defabo and her husband, Steve; Kristopher Eckrote; Ian Eckrote and his wife, Samantha; and Kayleigh Chupp and her husband, Michael; nine great-grandchildren, with one on the way; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial services for Helen will be held on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Kiesinger Funeral Services Inc., 255 McAlpine St., Duryea, with Fr. Phillip Sladicka officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Carverton.
