Johanna M. Costello

Johanna M. Costello, 94, formerly of Falls, passed away Monday, May 12, 2025, at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center.

Born in Montdale, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Kapinus and Mary Tellip Kapinus.

She graduated from Scott Twp. High School and Lackawanna Business College.

Johanna was a quintessential home maker, she enjoyed cooking, baking, and taking care of her family. She loved babies and flowers and could bring plants back to life. Johanna grew up on a farm, so she was hard-working, strong-willed and valued the importance of family. She was a long-time member of the Church of the Holy Redeemer.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, COL John F. Costello, Jr., daughter Irene Talcott, son-in-law Larry Talcott, daughter-in-law Michele Costello, and her brothers Michael Kapinus, and Joseph Kapinus.

Surviving, her children: John T. Costello and wife Pam, Tunkhannock; Joseph E. Costello, Dalton; COL Mary J. Forbes and husband COL Robert S. Forbes, DuPont WA; SSG Robert J. Costello and wife Joanne, Pittston; her brothers:  Theodore Kapinus, and Richard Kapinus and wife Janet, Montdale. 

Her grandchildren; Lori Gramberg (Lance), John Costello (Emily), Kevin Costello, Nicholas Costello, Michael Lynady, Brian Lynady (Megan), Alicen Costello, Julie Costello, John Forbes (Melina), Johanna Crisman (Brian), Mary Forbes (Maggie), Rachel Forbes, Emily Forbes, Robert Costello, Matthew Costello.

Her great-grandchildren; Aleah, Kaden, Darian, Issac, Atlee, Jackson, Lillie, Shamus, Tiernan, Oliver, Maeve, and Theodore, as well as nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Saturday, May 17, 2025, at 10AM at the Church of the Holy Redeemer, 2435 Rt. 92, Falls, PA. The Family will receive friends and relatives from 8:30AM until the time of mass in the church.

Interment will follow in Mountain View Memorial Park. Arrangements are entrusted to Adonizio Funeral Home, LLC.
