Roger Michael Belles

Roger Michael Belles, 63, of Alexandria, VA, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, in Washington, DC.

Born October 26, 1961, in Fort Knox, KY, he was the son of William Edward Belles and Louise Walsh Belles.Roger was a graduate of Pittston Area High School and received a Computer Programming Certification after graduation.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Jonathan Gilpin; father-in-law, Michael Fino; sister-in-law, Mary Anne Fino; and brother-in-law and good friend, Andrew Ewonishon.

Roger is survived by his wife of nearly 30 years, Mary Patricia Belles; daughter-in-law, Tanya Macareo; grand angel and apple of his eye, Lydia Gilpin; sister, Vicki Lynn Johnson, her husband Brian, and their children Tiffani Strickland, Nicole Paradiso, and Kimberly Taylor; brother, David Belles (whom Roger affectionately called "Boog") and his wife, Sandra; mother-in-law, Judith L. Fino; sisters-in-law, Alice Louise Ewonishon-Fino, Mary Sue Szumski and her husband Conrad, Marsha Joan Fino and her husband Ron Lobo; and his beloved doggie daughter, Jenny-Fur Belles. Roger loved and was very close to all of his nieces and nephews.

Roger was and will always be affectionately known as Roe by his brother Dave and the people he grew up with and held dear in his heart, including all of his aunts, uncles, and cousins, whom he spoke of fondly and often through the years.

He worked in many places, including Techneglas in Pittston for 10 years. In 2002, Roger moved from Exeter, PA to Virginia with his wife and best friend Trish, their son Jonathan, and "the guys," Rusty and Nugget. He worked at the Bureau of Engraving and Printing in Washington, DC, retiring after 20 years on May 31, 2024. He was happy to celebrate that milestone with the friends he had made over the years.

He nurtured and loved his family deeply. He always made sure everyone, humans and fur babies alike, were fed, walked, happy, and well. He lovingly nursed Trish back to health after a recent illness, made new friends at most happy hours, and treasured every moment with Tanya and Lydia, who called him "Gampie."

He taught himself to play guitar at the age of 50, developing a passion fueled by his love of music. He delighted in planning vacations with Trish, making his signature "Royal Grilled Cheese" whenever a frying pan was available, and was just getting back on the golf course.

The family will receive friends and relatives from 7 to 9 p.m. on Friday, May 30, at Adonizio Funeral Home LLC, 251 William St., Pittston.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 31, 2025, in Corpus Christi Parish, 605 Luzerne Avenue, West Pittston. Those attending are asked to go directly to the church Saturday morning. Interment will be private.
